Empowering the Special Ones

The absorption of productive-age people with disabilities at work is admittedly very low. In an occasion in January 2022, the Minister of Manpower, Mrs. Ida Fauziyah, said that only 5,825 of the approximately 16.5 million people with disabilities are currently at work in government institutions, state-owned enterprises (BUMN) and the private offices. This figure is far from the Government's target which mandates the absorption of disability workers as much as 2% for government institutions, BUMN and BUMD, and 1% for private institutions.

In addition to poor inclusivity practice at employers’ side, the readiness of disability people to get into professional world also needs to be improved. Their communication capability, skills required at works and exposure to the world of work need to be improved.

A Simple Yet Meaningful Action

ITM understands the principles of inclusivity and equality in providing job opportunities for everyone, including those with special needs. A value of Banpu Heart, Passionate, is the Company’s key guideline in realizing its social responsibility pillars namely #BerdayaBersamaITM and #BelajarBersamaITM. Various actions and programs, aiming at increasing the opportunities of disability people to get decent jobs, have been carried out by the Company.

Most recently, ITM through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Banpu Heart Change Leaders Teams, held a coaching career for students of class IX and XII of Santi Rama Special School (SLB) Jakarta. The coaching career program, titled BCL Goes to Schools, featured introduction to job application class, appropriate skills (graphic design) and few software that are widely used at works. The coaching session which was held for four days, from June 3 to 8, 2022, was brought by fellow employees of ITM Jakarta Office.

The coaching career program is expected to support final year students to prepare themselves entering working phase. “ITM has good experience in realizing the principle of inclusivity, especially in providing space of contribution and personal development for those with special needs. From this experience, we can see the potential that they have and the support that the Company can provide. This coaching career is carried out to introduce the world of work to the students," said Melisha Rachman, HR People & Corporate Culture Management, who oversees the internalization of Banpu Heart’s values.

Aga, one of the participants in the training program at SLB Santi Rama, admitted that he received important insights from the program run by ITM, and expressed his appreciation to the mentors. “I am really happy to attend this class, especially the CV and Ms. Word and Ms. Excel. Thank you to the mentors from ITM who have shared many things with us,” said Aga at the end of coaching career session.

ITM CSR Team will continue to implement and strengthen the Company's programs that realize the principles of inclusivity and equality. The involvement of more employees with diverse backgrounds, knowledge and expertise will certainly strengthen the program and improve the quality of output.
