Our Approach

As part of the nation, ITM is committed to taking an active role in supporting and contributing to the achievement of the country's targets in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Support and contributions are focused on the context of ITM's business operations and stakeholder expectations. In carrying out its role, ITM has a sustainable development compass as a tool in mapping ITM's focus on these targets which are then passed down to corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives consisting of corporate governance, human rights, labor practices, the environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues and community engagement and development. These things, in accordance with ISO 26000 guidelines, are a “vehicle” for ITM in supporting and contributing to SDGs.

Sustainable development is a development that meets the current needs without sacrificing future generations to fulfill their own needs.

Sustainability is a paradigm of thinking about the future that considers balanced environmental, social and economic aspects in pursuing the quality-of-life improvement.

Sustainability is concerned with long-term goals while sustainable development refers to the processes and pathways to achieve them.

There are four dimensions of sustainable development, namely society, environment, culture and economy. The four are interrelated and cannot be separated. With the right sustainable development approach through four dimensions, ITM believes we could contribute toward sustainability, both for the company and the earth.

Society

The community is an important stakeholder for us. ITM continues to actively involve local communities in the entire value chain of the company. We continue to absorb community expectations periodically through various approaches such as Community Consultative Forums, Materiality Surveys and other informal methods. Walking hand in hand between the company and society towards an empowered and sustainable society is our ultimate goal.

Environment

We are aware that human and company activities have impacted the environment and thus consequently influence the ecosystem and nature. Furthermore, ITM understands that biodiversity is granted by the nature and thus need to be conserved despite company’s operational activities. ITM has formulated and executed various initiatives to be able to positively contribute to the environment and protect the biodiversity.

Culture

Cultural sustainability that is related to sustainable development is concerned with maintaining cultural beliefs, cultural practices, heritage preservation, and the question of whether a particular culture will persist in the future or not. Culture and the creative culture industry are the thruster and the driver of economic, social, and environmental of sustainable development. In carrying out its operational activities, we highly respect and preserve the culture of the local community and promotes local culture as a driving force for the community's economy.

Economy

Our business activities that contain economic motives can be sustainable when running in harmony with the environment. Natural resource management is directed at improving community welfare and restoring environmental functions. Thus, our efforts to pursue targets or profits are related to poverty alleviation through improving the socio-economic welfare of the community and earnest efforts to preserve the environment
