Since 2010, we have collaborated with the community in planting mangroves and transplanting coral reefs on the various areas. Mangroves and coral reefs can function as natural filters in preventing coastal erosion besides being part of the marine biota ecosystem in increasing biodiversity. Furthermore, ITM is also playing an active role in mangroves planning in the coastal area. The existence of mangrove forests will be developed into mangrove ecotourism that is able to develop the economic value of the community so that local people can return to their livelihoods as fishermen.
According to regulations, as the holder of the Borrow-to-Use Forest Area Permit, we are obliged to carry out planting in the context of Watershed Rehabilitation. Planting is one of the efforts to restore ecosystem functions in forests and critical land. Instead of merely fulfilling obligations, we place Watershed Rehabilitation as a strategic program in the context of social responsibility.
The achievement of the watershed rehabilitation commitment has led us to be selected as one of five companies to take part in a major national project in rehabilitating a 250-hectare watershed in the Menoreh hills, in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, and Central Java.
