We fulfill the need for clean water for domestic and operational activities from groundwater sources, rainwater collection ponds, and river water. Operational water is used to flush roads, clean vehicles and mining facilities, as well as spray on stockpiles.We also use sea water to perform the cooling process and water cycle at our Steam Power Plant at PT Indominco Mandiri in Bontang.
Treatment of effluent is carried out in settling ponds and WWTPs (Wastewater Management Installation). The treated effluent is closely monitored according to the environmental quality standards before being released to receiving water bodies (such as rivers, seas, and swamps) to ensure that the release meets the quality standards set by the government.
We ensure that the processed effluent does not pollute the environment by monitoring the rivers around the subsidiary's concession area which is the water body for the effluent release.
We use digital technology to monitor effluent quality in sediment ponds with the highest pollutant loads in real time. Meanwhile, other sediment pond monitoring is done manually by an accredited laboratory. The quality of processed effluent released into water bodies has met the quality standards set by the government.
To ensure that the release of processed effluent does not affect the habitat in the river body, we also do the monitoring and calculating the value of biodiversity in the river body for which the effluent is released on a regular basis.
Evaluation of water and effluent management is carried out through an assessment mechanism for regular reporting to the authorities. The evaluation results show that the quality of processed effluent released into water bodies has met the quality standards set by the Government and we report regularly through our sustainability report.
In the past, the residents in Santan Tengah faced with inadequate and poor water quality. In the dry season, they must purchase water from local water supplier trucks at unreasonable price. In order to solve this problem, ITM subsidiary, Indominco Mandiri has collaborated with the community leaders and other local authorities to identify the most appropriate solution on how we could increase the affordability and accessibility of the clean water.
