Environmental

We are committed to conduct an uncompromised environmental compliance. Compliance is paramount in conducting our business since it is a basic requirement to obtain and maintain license to operate. We stay away from non-compliance act because any non-compliance act could bring detrimental effect to our companies in various aspects, both internally through financial and operations and externally through reputation and trust from stakeholders.

Our Way in Achieving Environmental Compliance

The starting point is the environmental policy, which focuses on strict compliance with laws and regulations. All business units will adhere to this policy and operate their functions in line with related regulation. ITM will always follow the latest changes on laws and regulations and adjust the policy as necessary. We also implemented a number of environmental management initiatives and set several environmental-related targets.

We have set a very important tool to achieve the environmental compliance, which is the environmental incident reporting. The Company classifies environmental-related risk into five impact levels. Moreover, we will attribute the likelihood rating on each environmental risk; thus, we could plan and conduct the relevant control to each risk.

Finally, the Company has established an internal audit and compliance function to assure the practices at each business unit. Moreover, the verification by an independent certification body and other related third party has been also performed from time to time.

Adhering to well-recognized standards

Starting mine closure activity even before the operations started

ITM ensures that each program refers to applicable standards such as OHSAS 18001: 2007 as well as the Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Management System (SMKP Minerba).

Starting mine closure activity even before the operations started

With full understanding that coal reserves will continue to decrease and may even be fully depleted, we realize the importance of mine closure even before the operations started, to return the area to the original natural state with the community and stakeholders’ acceptance. Our mine closure standard is developed in line with the International Council on Mining & Metals (ICMM) guideline

Aiming to minimize the environmental impact, we put several measures in place such as land stabilization, waste management, water management, and mine rehabilitation. For each site, the environmental impact assessment is performed, and the mine closure plans are developed. The Company also monitors progress with reference to the mine closure plan. In addition to that, following the open-pit mining characteristic, we also conduct revegetation activities and actively monitor its progress.

Mine Closure Planning and Implementation

Mine closure activities are planned, systematic, and ongoing activities to restore natural environmental functions and social functions after mining operations are completed according to the original local conditions applied to the entire mining area. Mine closure planning demonstrated the company's commitment to be responsible and in accordance with the application of good mining practices.

Continuously updating our arsenal to ensure the compliance

To ensure environmental compliance in all operations, we improve our environmental tool so it will have the capacity to do so. For example. the monitoring results such as volume, pH, and TSS are automatically sent to responsible persons via SMS and then consolidated at a data center before reporting to the government agencies. This application ascertains that all relevant parties have adequate information, able to assess risks and develop mitigation measures promptly so it can minimize potential mishaps.
