One of the efforts of building a reclamation and mine closure model in PT Indominco Mandiri (PT IMM) is a 65-hectare Arboretum area. The Arboretum serves as a collection site for various plant species, including those developed through revegetation planting and enrichment planting, as well as those that grow naturally.
Over the course of two decades, this reclamation area has been developed into an Arboretum as a collection site for various flora species, but in its development, it has also become a habitat for several types of fauna, even including some protected species from the Mammal, Primate, and Bird groups. This further confirms and motivates us that developing the ecosystem function of reclamation into an Arboretum is highly possible.
PT IMM is committed to ensuring that this developed Arboretum serves not only as a collection site, but also has multifunctional purposes as a place for science development, tourism and recreation, and wildlife conservation.
To support all these goals, various field activities have been carried out in this Arboretum, including inventorying flora and fauna, constructing monitoring transects, developing tourism infrastructure, compiling biodiversity profiles, and developing zoning.
At the end of the day, we hope that this Arboretum location can contribute to presenting a biodiversity conservation model in the reclamation area of PT Indominco Mandiri.
