The clean water pipelining program of PT Indominco Mandiri (IMM) for the residents of Santan Ilir Village in the Marang Kayu Subdistrict, which has been running since 2013, received a visit from the Regent of Kutai Kertanegara, Edi Darmansyah.
During the inspection, Regent Edi Darmansyah expressed his gratitude for IMM's initiative in building a clean water network for the residents, making clean water easily accessible and improving health quality. The provision of clean water facilities is a form of IMM's social responsibility program contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals.
"I hope that IMM's initiative can be followed by other companies in Kutai Kertanegara," said Edi. He urged IMM to continue coordinating with local governments and other institutions to open up access to clean water for the community. According to him, Village-Owned Enterprises (Bumdes) can be utilized to manage this clean water access. "Clean water facilities can become one source of village income," he added. The revenue generated from this can be used for strengthening and developing businesses, including serving as local revenue for the village.
Before the clean water pipelining program was implemented, residents faced difficulties in obtaining clean water for their daily needs such as cooking, drinking, bathing, and sanitation. They had to travel quite a distance to the Santan River to fetch water, and the water quality was not suitable for use.
With a 17-kilometer pipeline delivering water directly to their homes, residents now have easy access to clean water, and their quality of life has significantly improved.
