JBG provides the opportunity to several people living around the site of the operation to join the JBG internship program, organized by the Human Resources Department.
Dwi Sugiarto, HR JBG, explained the internship program is the Company’s support to the skill competency of the local workforce based on the education institution’s aspirations. Consequently, the internship program is designed to facilitate students at Vocational Schools (SMK), and college students to conduct the fieldwork practicum or final project (dissertation).
Every year, an internship in JBG is eligible for 45 people from all respective education levels with a duration ranging from 1,2,3, or 6 months aligned with the purpose of the internship. This quota is set based on the Company’s ability to prepare the working equipment and facilities.
The internship program provides benefits for both the participants and the company. Sri Indah Wulandari (23), an alumnus of the JBG apprenticeship program from Jorong Village, feels that she has gained a lot of knowledge and experience, one of which was regarding the company's financial management. This graduate student of Tanah Laut Polytechnic Department of Accounting has completed her internship at JBG and is now part of JBG’s partner company that supports the External Relations Department.
Several apprentices with certain qualifications work in a few of JBG’s partner companies. It was recorded that 5 JBG contractor employees were alumni of the Company's apprenticeship program and came from villages in the Jorong District area. They are spread across the General Affairs, Health Safety & Environment, External Relations, and Maintenance departments.
I Gede Widiada, JBG Mine Technical Head, emphasized JBG’s involvement in community empowerment is a necessity since to make the Company grow, it requires responsibility towards society and the environment.
"JBG's commitment to community empowerment around the mine remains strong. We have done and continue to do a lot in the context of empowering the community, including providing space for young people in nearby villages to learn and develop through apprenticeship programs. At the internship program in JBG, participants get the opportunity to learn through practice or learning by doing with supervision from professional employees,” said Pak Gede.
Pak Gede points out that the opportunity for internships and hands-on learning at the Company's operations can leverage the knowledge of the surrounding communities regarding the way of work and the values upheld by the Company. With such efforts, community groups can synergize and grow together with the Company.***
